Hello All, I just received my large faced stewart warner temp gauge and restored Sylphon oil pressure and fuel pressure dial faces today. The temp gauge was not reading correctly so they replaced the whole Bourbon tube and bulb unit. The gauge was also recalibrated and the face dial redone also. I am very happy with the end result. The gauges look like new. I will now have all the original type gauges that were on my 1939 D2/3J when it left the factory. If any of you are thinking of having your gauges redone, I highly recommend the following: APT Instruments Intl, Inc. 9632 Humboldt Ave. Bloomington, MN 55431. (952)881-7095. Real nice people to deal with. You all have a nice week. Joe Giraud

G'day Dozerman,

Do they also make gauges that look like the older style cat gauges?

Hello Macca, No sorry they don't. They only repair gauges and dial faces. They do not make new units.

Hi Eric, It all depends on how much work is required to get it looking and funtioning properly. They have a web site I forgot to list on my initial post. Their web site is Gaugeguys.com. They are not cheap, but the workmanship is flawless and the turnaround time is very good. These old gauges from the 30's to the 50's c Cats beat the cheap stuff they are now selling. They were all made to be repairable, not a throwaway like Cat makes now.

Hello Old Magnet, You have a good memory. That was over a year ago; before I decided to bite the bullet and have my original gauges redone. I took my gauges to a local shop which I will not mention, and had nothing but trouble in getting the gauges done. Don and Willie know the whole story. Anyway I sent them to the folks I'm talking about and man, what a difference in business relations. I have a digital camera, but I need to learn how to post pic's with it on this site. When I do, I'll post pic's of the gauges. So you found a Rochester Fuel Pressure gauge on your D6. I was certain they were installed on most cat equipment after Sylphon was dropped as the manufacturer of both Fuel and Oil pressure gauges. I also have an Ashcroft large face oil pressure gauge. I believe it was installed on cat equipment also. The one piece mounting bracket and holes line up perfectly with the holes in the dash of my 3J. Also, about a month ago, there was a D2/5J for sale in Red Bluff. It was a 1942 if I remember correctly. It had an Ashcroft oil pressure gauge on it also. Perhaps they were another manufacterer used during the war years by Cat. You can't beat the beveled glass gauges for looks. Hope things are well with you.
