What is the name of the old flat grease zerk? was created by Scott Kuehn
Maybe a dumb question, but I can't find anyone who knows what the old flat style grase zerks were called. Maybe once I know what they are called, I can ask for them by name.

The one in question is about 3/4" around and is flat on top with a lip around the whole thing about 1/8" below the top. Instead of a ball to keep the grease in, this has a small flat spring loaded center.
There are other zerks that look like a standard zerk, bit do not have the head that a modern day gun would lock onto, just a taper nipple to about 3/16" at the top. Don't know what they are called either.

Sure they aren't just worn out? Certainly would have to be a low pressure system. Maybe they can be replaced with standard.

If my memory serves me right, I think the kind of button head fitting you are referring is more properly called a "giant button head fitting". I believe the standard button head fitting is smaller in size than is used on say the Cat D2undercarriage and others.
BTW, NAPA sell a grease gun tip that works with the giant button head fitting and screws onto a standard grease gun hose (1/8" NPT??).

Hi Scott,
as far as I know the fittings for rollers and idlers are Giant Button Head fittings by Alemite. Here is a copy of a page from a "Caterpillar Accessory and Supply Catalog" dated 1939!. The then 3B8484 is Alemite P/No 1826 and the then 2F1336 is a 1822, both with 3/8" pipe thread.

Most everyone got it right "Giant Button Head" (7/8 diameter) vs "Standard Button Head" (5/8 diameter)
