on the d6 9u known as THE HOOD, the book says to press the sprocket on till the distance "A" is reach. what is the measurement of "A"?????

Hi KoO,
For the D6 dimension "A" is .06 - .19 in. (1/16 - 3/16 in.) at 35-40T press fit.

The dimension "A" is to be achieved after the press fit. It is not a press specification.

thansk old magnet, i saved it and will print it out. a couple more years and i'll "YOUR" specc book saved in my computer, LOL

can you post a picture of the spec book so i can keep an eye on ebay for one.

Hi KoO,
It's not that easy. Spec information comes from several sources. The picture is from a non Cat (F & G) manual. The dimensions are from the D6B service manual.
The D4 & D6 actually use the same dimension specification, just the press tonnage changes. Takes a sizable library to sort out all this Cat stuff.

OM, At the shop I don,t think they ever worried about the spec. there as long as the sprocket didn,t go on too far with the correct tonnage & the hub splines were far enough inside the sprocket so the nut would thread on ok & tighten up.I never was aware there was a spec. for the sprocket in relation to the hub.

Cat has a specification for everything:) :)
I would agree, so long as the nut doesn't bottom out on the splines your ok.
Does kind of give you an idea of where you are with the fit though.

so the best thing to do is stay on the BBs and have all the best help in the world. i pressed the sprocket on to where i measured it be i took it off. plus it was right in the middle of old magnets info.
