D4 Traxcavator main lift cylinder rod seal leaking - options? was created by neil

Hi all, the right-side main lift cylinder's rod seal is leaking on this tractor. Does the whole cylinder need to come out to replace those seals? Or is there some crafty technique that might only require undoing the gland cap (pictured) and fitting new seals?

Also, what type of packing is used in the pony fuel bowl valve? I have some carbon inpregnated plastic-looking stuff but I don't know if that's appropriate for gasoline

Thats a field change over cylinder, have to remove the set screw on top and then turn the gland off. It's a 5 1/2" cylinder. Packing set is 1K7105 for the piston, nut is 1K5341, packing set for the gland is 1K7106, also two 2H3929 ring [seal]
The seal for the bowl is 9B4519

Thanks Gary, is there an instruction sheet with pictures for this procedure? It sounds like the rod and piston have to be withdrawn from the cylinder, the piston removed in order to replace the seals in the gland?
And do you have the part number for the assembly as a whole (the field changeover group)?

Yes it has to be removed, no instructions, cylinder # is 1K5089. Now there is a later cylinder for higher serial number loaders, 1K5583, which uses the 1K7105 packing set for the piston, 1K7114 packing set for the head, also 1K6982 seal, washer [leather] 1K7099. You may want find a hydraulic repair shop to redo these.
