Raising serial numbers (again)

More
2 years 1 month ago #240114 by neil
Hi all,
Eddie B. wrote once about how to raise serial numbers that had been scraped off (use paint softener, not a wire brush! : ). I can't find his post that described it but I did see references on the web about nital, a 5% nitric acid solution in methanol or ethanol. That seemed to be suitable for carbon steel but I would like to raise the serial number on my buddy's HT-4 tag, which is either aluminum or pot metal so I don't know if nital is an option. Would anyone happen to know? Alternatively, is there a way to cross-reference from the tractor serial # 7U18584?

Cheers,
Neil
