R2 throttle control assembly problem resolved

Hi, I'm having trouble with the throttle control on my R2 6J1024. The throttle handle wouldn't move so, at the throttle control assembly, I removed both rods to insure that the throttle handle was free and also the governor was free. I have loosened the adjusting nut on the control but I was only able to move the control one direction and I heard and felt a ratcheting as it moved. It now seems to be locked. I looked in the parts book and I see that it has a ratchet assembly inside. Also a bunch of springs and other parts. I have no idea how the mechanism works and don't want to take it apart to fix it. That usually results in me having to buy a whole new mechanism.

I sprayed loose juice on all the areas but find that it probably won't get past the seals. This has not run for 12 years or more.

Does anybody have an idea of what is wrong and how I can fix it? If I have to take it apart, can a lay person put it back together? The diagram in the parts book isn't real clear.

That looks a lot like the throttle on my D6. It has a ratchet one way and the other way you have to force the handle past the clutches. There is not much to them, ratchet wheel and a pawl, a clutch plate and a friction disc and a spring.If it moves freely on the ratchet side try forcing it back the other way using only hand force. If that does not work undo the bolt on the side which will loosen the spring tension.

I wasn't sure what was supposed to happen after I heard the ratcheting but I loosened the bolt like you said. It took quite a bit but it appears to work now. I still have a lot that I want to do on it before I crank it over.
