Blacksmithing a Thirty heatbox.

Hi all.  I recently got this Thirty and I’m in the process of putting it back together.  I had repaired the intake manifold for the previous owner, but I knew the heatbox needed attention.  The lower ears were broken off and the threads for the exhaust pipe were badly damaged.  I decided to build my own heatbox out of iron.  This is purely cosmetic and nonfunctional as I don’t intend to burn kerosene in the dead of winter, but I wanted it to look semi respectable.  Here is the progress thus far.

That is very impressive work there Bruce, well done, I need to find 3 sets of manifolds here for my old wrecks and am wondering how you repaired the inlet manifold too?
Thanks
Mike

Thanks Mike. The intake had started to break the outer jacket off.  It sort of exploded from the inside out. I took a grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut where the outer jacket was still held on and opened up some “windows” to clean out the rust and carbon that was in there.   It was a tremendous mess inside.  Once I finally got it all cleaned out, I brazed the windows back in.

Your pictures look like your manifolds are a little further gone than this set.

Well here is the finished product.  Good enough for a toy tractor I’d say.
