As several have mentioned, crawlers have their place. I rent several out to a good friend that farms along the Sacramento Delta area, from Freeport all the way south to Rio Vista. Many of the fields are under 200 acres and they spent a LOT of time moving iron on a daily basis. I convinced him to just "rent" mine and leave them at each location. Talk about a game changer... most of his "operators" prefer the old crawlers any day over the computerized DEF guzzling wheel tractors that they own. Fuel consumption is minimal compared to the big rubber tired monsters. A good example is one of the 17A D7s, it burns only 4.5 gallons of diesel per hour pulling an 18' drag disc, and drivers are happy with the smooth ride, compared to 4X4 burning 13 per hour and awkward to manuever.

  Right on Gee😀. Snapped the picture below of my tenant planting corn with a small four-wheel-drive rig and it burns over 14 gallons per hour. Our land is as flat as a pancake with hardly any hills. I’m doing this on my phone so I’ll see if I can upload the picture.

As far as running a D7 they may be a little old , a little clanky BUT if you are on a late turboed 17a with a fast transmission you will cover a lot of ground in a Day and as juiceman says on not a lot of fuel
