This unit is up for auction locally and curious about what year it is. I can't quite make out the prefix on the SN plate but I want to say its a 4U4866. Would the 4U be correct? The tractor shows 33XX hours and I believe its the wide gauge.

Thats a 7U series, looks like late 40's to early 50's. Five roller track frames, Dakota blade.

I would say yes, original shoes, lock washers with the track bolts, good rail height and good sprockets. But might have been replaced many years ago.

Does it have an equalizer spring or a rigid cross frame under the engine? With that side air cleaner, it may have been set up for a pipelayer, Trackson PD4

Does that high fuel tower make it look like earlier than a U-series? I thought that the G-series had the tall tower and the U-series tower was lower. It may just be my bad memory.

The rigid cross members were used on sidebooms and track loaders. Bare tractors and dozers used the equalizer spring to allow oscillation of the track frames.

This links to the auction which is today. I noticed two sets of hydraulic quick couplers on the back which are apparently controlled by the two handles on the right of the seat.
A third valve handle is probably for the dozer. The quick couplers would seem to be for a drawn implement but I see little to no wear on the drawbar pin hole.

I zoomed in on the pics and you could see it's a rigid frame, it was probably ordered for a track loader to be put on it but somebody decided to just put a blade on it. It has the heavy frames on the inside of the idlers for a loader frame also.
