hi, ongoing cleanup of my new twenty and i drained oil and found Baldwin filters in the motor oil filters (the manual says theres a reusable filter) just curious what everyone is using or would these filters be fine-i believe they’re balwin PT766 

the backplate instructions say to use a highgrade medium body cylinder oil? i was going to use non detergent SAE 30 for motor oil

the transmission and finals says to use transmission oil? i read on a cat 22 manual this is pure mineral oil (i was going to use 80W-90 gear oil in these?

that would be fine on both counts. i would use those filters better than a reusable strainer. if in doubt about oil ask your chosen oil companies tech advice service for a recommendation.

This will help with your oil filters, I use 90w140 gear lube and 30 weight in engine, I typically use it for summer fun, not cold weather use., I would recommend removing and cleaning oil sump, I am usually shocked by what I find

thank you! that does help, im tempted to try those fram filters as i could get them today but i think ill wait until tomorrow and see if cat has a match. i could feel the sludge in bottom thru drain plug hole and so i removed the left access covers….. you’re correct i was amazed… found a lot of sludge and a screw driver wedged under oil pipe haha

To be clear , to use the fram filters you have to make the bushings and buy a 2 springs, but a simple way to use modern filters.

No direct knowledge however I have seen aftermarket filters added to many tractors,, it can be as simple as a t in the oil pressure gage line going to a spin on filter bolted to the fender and then discharging back into the crank case. Many old engines have nothing more than a screen, same for old airplanes. I like a filter for good measure.
