Automatic renewal of membership

I tried to set up my membership for automatic renewal but it appears there are still problems with the system.
1.  My present membership expires at the end of the year, 12-31-2022
2.  My automated renewal now goes from May 3 of this year until May 3 of 2023.  I paid $63 for first class delivery.
3,  What happened to the remaining 8 months already paid?

I went to "members" and clicked on renew membership.  It sent me to the icon for purchasing a year so I clicked it to place it in the cart.  OK so far! 
I went to cart and clicked on checkout.   Went to automated renewal with Credit Card, marked the button, and clicked finish.  It took my money with no problem but now my anniversary date is May 2 of each year.  I must confess that is a pretty nifty way to get members to double subscribe for 8 months and should help the financials quite a bit if that happens to all automatic renewals.
Perhaps a detailed sticky in the announcements could save future subscribers a lot of grief and trial and error.

Hello Jim,
Firstly thank you for bringing this to our attention.
When we implemented automatic renewal, our expectation was that when memberships became due for renewal then members would take out the autorenewal option at that time.
We have had a few instances where members have implemented autorenewal somewhat later than their dues expiry date, and in this case if we do nothing their membership will always be "late" so we are looking at the best process to address this.
Your case is new and I think that probably the easiest way to sort it out would be to give you a refund for the extra 8 months, but I need to check with Mary on this.
We will also look at adding explanatory notes to the autorenewal page of the store.
Once again apologies for this situation.

I can work it out with Mary. If possible I would like my renewal at the end of 2023 so no need to refund anything.
Might be easier to ask for refund and do it again when the glitch is fixed.

If you go to the members page on this website and click on “Members Directory” you will be taken to a page where in the search field you can type “South Africa” then click search and both SA member details will be displayed including email addresses and phone numbers. Do let me know how you get on. It would be great to have more members in your region and maybe even a Chapter at some point.

Mary to the rescue. She called and explained that the correct end date will appear when the computer updates the data which is what happened so the "paid up" date is now correct. So every year it will automatically renew my membership, no muss, no fuss. Mary also said I am nearing the 25 year mark for membership.
