I knew this forum would be a good source of information, I just didn’t realize how much would be shared! Thank you to all,
Sounds like I need to jump on this one-I also need to find some more info on the tool bar/ options

Based on the positioning of the idlers, the undercarriage may not be very worn. Best thing you can do is measure the undercarriage to know for sure. If you can start with the rail height, measure from the "underside" of the track pads down to the top of the rails (the chains that the pads are bolted to). Use a ruler to get the level across the rails and measure in a couple of different places to get an average. If you can also look at the pin bosses on each link to see if they've been pounded by the rim of the rollers, that is a rough swag at the wear too. Ideal is that the rims do not hit the pin bosses. There's a tool to measure the wear on teh idlers, rollers, and sprocket teeth as well as the rails and grousers

Cheers,
Neil

Very nice D2. You're lucky to have found one like that. Hope it checks out good and that you can enjoy it in the dirt before you have to enjoy it in the shop.

That is one sweet little d2. Doesn't look like its been abused or hacked up. A good bath and it'll be looking good. Hope you can get the deal done. Good luck

I’m glad the link to the Cat D2 page was included in one of the answers, thank you. However, I can’t seem to find it from either the home page or the forums page. Am I looking for the “machines page” in the wrong spot? I’d like to explore what other models are listed?

I’m guessing at this model also- not sure if it’s a D2 or an early D4-it’s has 5-rollers, but looks pretty tired.

Thats an early d4, you can tell from the small rear axel bearing. The bearing changed to the bigger style late in the 2t series.

Hi Justin, To access the "Machines" pages just click on the "Machines" yellow button at the top right hand side of he Forum page (see below). It's also on the "About" page (see below).
Currently there are pages for the D2, R2, FIFTY, SEVENTY and 212 Grader. More are in preparation (This new feature is only a few weeks old!). If there are specific machine pages that you are interested in just let me know and I will try and create them sooner rather than later.
