No CW McCall was not actually in the movie. He sang the title song, Kris Kristofferson was the star who played "Rubber Duck".
CW had many other songs as well but I guess Convoy is his best known song.

Yea he was the singer for the movie, Kris Kristofferson was the diver of the Mack named "Rubber Duck"
