Head gasket is starting to weep

Well Poop fire and save on matches. The head gasket is starting to weep om the generator side after the Motor Grater 8T14777 came up to operating temp. I planed on retorque the head and set the valves but the rockers are in the way and cannot find my crows foot 15/16" . I really don't want to pull the rockers if it is not going to help to retorque the head. Think retorquing will help?
First chance I get I'll spring for a new head gasket set... ooffta how am I going to explain that to the wife?
"I love you babe, you are the best wife a man could ever have." That's about as far as I'll get before she knows something is up. Wish me luck gang.

Well I’m out at the 8T and retorquing won't work. The valve lash is all over the place.
The four valves I’ve tested are from 0.135 to 0.24 lash is supposed to be 0.10 hot for intake and exhaust.
Thanks everyone. I’ll keep ya posted if I don’t fall off the dang thing

Yea, all the 311's, 15'S and 18"s are noted for being seepers, best thing is when installing a new head gasket is use Permatex 300 on them.

Adjusting the valve lash went well. I thought the engine sounded good before now is sounds like a diesel 🤦Ha Ha.
I'll run it some tomorrow and check valve lash again.
Why dose everyone crank the valve covers down to 50 ft.pounds?
"Torque, what's torque?" Asked the 6'8" 450lbs WWF character holding out a bent and twisted wrench
Thanks Rome K/G
and everyone else for looking👍😁👍

You're welcome, yea I have had to bend them back out on some covers. Same goes for injection pump lifter setting, had a 315 engine spittin n sputterin, after resetting lifters she ran smooth as velvet.

FD,
How did your valve lash get so far off?? A few years back I had some water from the exhaust stack get into a cylinder so checked the valve lifter clearance after about 600 hours they were all within .002 on the old 112 I have. Figured I could have been that far off when I reset them 5 years ago prior.

I'm not sure how the valve lash got that far off that was the first time I had ever had the valve covers off. I was going to pop the valve covers and check them again today but after operating for thirty minutes Arthur Itus wouldn't let me.

i have used hylomar gasket dressing with success on head gaskets. i have also used VHT products coppercote aerosol gasket dressing with success too. spray on let it tack up and assemble as normal. this was with new gaskets of course. there is a art in setting tappets so you set it and it doesnt move the screw as you tighten the lock nut.

had to change a rocker on our old ford tractor it doesn't have lock nuts you insert the adjuster screw and before installing on the rocker shaft you get a centre punch and and dimple the rocker on the side of the adjuster boss this squeezes it slightly and stops the adjuster undoing when the retired ford mechanic told me that i had to ask him your sure about that. he confirmed he was taught that as a apprentice he did his time on old fords.
