okay so i was a little wrong. it would be okay on oil pan gaskets to hold the bloody things in place while installing making the job easier. but its not a sealing compound on its own.

thanks for the video link D4Jim, explains the proper way to use the cement and some of the improper ways, not meant as a stand alone gasket replacement
-too many guys get carried away with this kind of stuff
-never been a fan of gooping up a decent gasket to begin with

Interesting video. I’ve added the Loctite guide to the Technical Library. Some good info in there, too.

This is pretty close to the old Cat Cement. I have found that it doesn't store quite as good as the original. It does seem to bond about as well. It is not a sealant but an adhesive. I don't know if the old red Cat liquid silicone is available anymore or not. we always used the red to seal the ham cases when rebuilding finals. A couple layers of that brushed on and you were good to go.

An update here. I called my local dealer,Milton Cat. I ordered a can of 5012 or 5H2471. I counterman said' yes the green cement'. I will have it out right away. I received a tube of black contact cement. MR 5414. I called Cat again, the parts man did some research and told me that the green cement in the can was discontinued and not available. He said he would get back to me to see if the black cement is the best replacement.
To be continued.
