D2 transmission bearing race removal

When I had a bearing race like that to remove (bevel gear shaft in rear of transmission), I sliced it with a gas axe. I shielded it up with some plate, heated it first with a mapp gas torch, then hit it fast and hard with the axe. I didn't cut all the way to the end, just about 75% of it. A cold chisel opened up the rest. It came off but if it didn't, my next step was going to be welding something to the split end so I could grab a hold of it and pull it off. A small scour on the shaft but otherwise unharmed. Tractor seems to work ok! : )

Cheers,
Neil

bpusmc:  Text me your address at 573 433 nine two seven seven, and I will send you a puller I fabricated today specifically for you to pull this race off your D-2.  My shop is heated, and I send a lot of time as my wife calls in it playing.   I am retired and enjoy making things, so this was todays project.  The Hex ring is bored 1.525 which should slide over the race you want to remove.  Stuff something in the hole to keep the welding slag from getting in the transmission and tack weld the ring to your race.  Screw the 1/2 X 20 bolt into the end of the shaft to protect the threads and provide a place for the center of the puller bolt, attach the puller and pull the race off.  You may have to get some longer 3/8" 16 bolts to use with the puller if these are not long enough but I think this should solve your Delima.

there was a poem submitted yrs ago to the old machinery magazine TOMM for short

that a tractor collectors wife had written about being ignored for the old girls in the shed, and how he would come in with the dna of some old girls all over his hands and on the back of his pants. and she lamented about the missing attention & how she wanted to be reincarnated as a old tractor so then maybe she would get the attention she needed.

Less than a week ago I posted my question here,  and today my bearing race is off.
Thanks Brian, for making a puller and mailing it to me. A huge ACMOC benefit I had not anticipated!

If anyone would want to understand the nature of this on-line community, this thread would be one of many to share with them-mechanically I’ve five thumbs and a cantaloupe on my shoulders but my D4 slowly continues to get better due to what I’ve learned here and the patient help I’ve received….
