I thought we were going to get dumped on but it turned out not as near as bad as the media and weather reports makes it to be, handled everything with the backhoe/loader. They said we only had twelve inches back in 78, what a bunch of bs! we had at least twenty to twenty four inches.

I figured about 15" in Western NY but it varies a lot within a short distance around here. Too deep for the lawnmower plow so used the blower (and put it all on the neighbor's place.....)

Sorry for the uninformed question - my brother 20 years ago tried to push snow with my 993 and packed the tracks with snow and cracked the final drive housing. How is it snow does not pack into your tracks??? Bob

I over-guesstimated - weatherman said 10" in my neighborhood but the cut on the side of the drive shows more than that. Either way, that's a lot of snow which makes for a fun day in the back yard. My D2 is up on blocks at the moment so no opportunity to try it in snow. Couldn't really use around here as I'm not good enough on the blade to not tear up the asphalt

Cheers,
Neil

If your tractor has good rails you can run them looser in the snow to help prevent sprocket "snapping". I have seen allot of recoil springs broke from snapping also.

Info is helpful. I’ve limited snow use over the past few years because of the pop. Couldn’t see anything good coming from impact vibration like that in cold weather. I noticed a difference lowering the dozer while running. My neighbor has a qtr mile gravel / dirt drive I’ve cleared several times in the past and the popping stopped while plowing. Of course 5 inch snow here is considered “a big snow”.

Always good info here!

Yeah, deep snow and letting snow and ice pack in and freeze is one of the hardest things on running gear. I've heard when water freezes it expands 4½% and nothing in the universe can stop the explanation except spring.

Another reason for having dirt shields over the springs is to keep dirt and mud or snow from filling up the spring and making inoperable. It's not a big job to make some shields and weld new blocks on for the mounting bolts.
