Looking for the simplest way to time the engine before mag removal and then the mag when I get it back from rebuilding thanks!

-there should be a timing mark on flywheel or dampner somewhere...for TDC
-and somewhere else for the magneto
-if you can't find them, why couldn't you make your own marks? chisel, punch marks etc...
-handy tip if you're taking anything apart that you're not familiar with...oh yeah that lines up and matches etc..

The way I time a mag to an engine is simply put the engine on TDC for #1 cylinder or just slightly past TDC. Now fire the mag on #1 (be careful to just fire the mag and do not go anymore or timing will be advanced) Now connect the mag to the engine making any adjustments for alignment through the engine/mag coupling. Do not rotate either the mag or the engine while doing this. Always check your work before trying to start and make any adjustments if necessary. Remember these instructions in the book are for their mag with everything new. Your timing has to be with your mag and the way it works now.
