I am not sure of what island this is, but the looks of it with the flat beach and shallow waters my guess would be Tarawa. If it is Tarawa it would place this picture November of 1943. Correct me of I am wrong, but it looks like there is about 8 Bulldozers in the back ground. Are they Caterpillars?

Many years ago I was watching an old war movie that was supposed to be showing the Japanese building a runway on a Pacific Island. It showed a bunch of equipment and I recognized a D4 Trackscavater. (sp?) . We had one on the ranch at the time so it was easy to see that it was not Japanese equipment. I dont recall anything else about the movie, except that old (brand new then) D4. Fun memory. Grant.

Here is a Bulldozer digging a mass grave on the island of Saipan after the Marines fought off the largest banzai charge of World War Two. There was a 4,500 Japanese troops in the and they all died for the Emperor.
