Is there a way to set old machines in Cat’s site? was created by FroghairFarm
I have a feeling there isn’t a way, but figured I’d ask anyway. I was looking up parts on the Caterpillar website and while it will accept D4D, it will not accept the serial # as it appears to be looking for a more modern numbering system. Has anyone found a way to do it or work around it?

Should just be able to type in part # and it will search. Are you looking in the parts section?

Definitely can do that, I was thinking that it could look up the correct part by model/serial, but it appears that may only apply to newer machines.

When I got parts for my D4 7U at my local dealer they used microfiche to look up the part numbers leading me to believe they have not digitized the parts books for the older units. Once they had the part numbers they used the regular computer system to check availability.

quote - the secret to searching the old part numbers is to add a zero or two to get the 6 character part numbers example 7b234 would be 7b0234 or 7b00234 the system cant find the shorter numbers as it doesnt understad that shorter numbers existed. also search engine are your friend i have been able to find cross reference this way.

Looks like you are going to want to use 5 digits after the prefix, 78A06678.

7D0234 will work but 7D00234 will not work. Don't add any more zeroes than is needed to make a 6 character part number.
