On my D6 9u, I put new D6 b dry pin rails and solid front idlers with new shafts/seals/side plates on maybe 20 years ago.  They probably have 350 hours on them, if that.  Have not used the cat in the last 3 years, and only a few hours in the previous 5 year.  Last time I used it , a couple of trac links were stuck, probably worse now.  I would like to get them freed up.  I am planning getting it fired up and maybe trying to sell it next summer, and the under carriage is what the cat is worth.  It needs clutch work.  What can I do to get them freed up?   Not really looking to spend a lot of time and $$$ to remove the tracs and have the pins pushed out, and back in.  I don’t think there is an independent trac shop in eastern ND anyway.  And I have too many other projects.

I have a D8-14a that has been getting the jobs done on my farm. So the D6 just sits and looks lonely.

On my machine i have soaked them with kroil oil and using a sledge hammer worked them up and done to rotate on the pin. but i have had only a few freeze up-- others have driven their machine into a wet area and let sit for a week--the water will soften the rust and let it break loose

I have two pins on each side that I have so far been unable to free. Does anyone have any experience with heat on the bushing around the offending pin? This has been suggested to me, but I am really nervous about what heat treatment I might be working on the adjacent rails, bushings and possibly the pins. A rosebud can apply an awful lot of heat in pretty short order. Cooling immediately with a lot of cold water tends to break loose frozen threads. I've been reluctant to try it on a pin/bushing.

The tractor is a D7 3T and the tracks are aftermarket. The problem came after I used it in water and then let it sit for perhaps a couple months.

I've never had to deal with the issue but I have heard several people say that they simply park the tractor with the offending links in a puddle of water that covers the pins and bushes and leave the water to work its wonders.

Just my 0.02.

i wouldn't be afraid to heat the pin/bushing area with a rosebud, but i wouldn't try to cool in down in water or oil or anything, i think that is "quenching" and that would definitely change the temper, hardness etc..

-side note, i took a link out of my tracks by cutting the links between the bolts and then welding the links back together, that way i didn't have fight pressing frozen/damaged pns...always break the track at the master-link!
