Welcome Hank! I'm in the middle of a 1950 D4-7U rebuild myself. Would love to see some pictures of yours if you have any.

Hello Hank, welcome to the club, I’m sure you will get a lot of help with your restoration here. Should you end up machining parts for your machine that you think might be of interest to other members our “reproduction parts” group are always looking for sources.

With other things here and the in the world your positive outlook is very refreshing. Hurry and get things done. As I have several stalled projects, once the joints start going.............................. life changes.

Hi, Rax200.
Thatza mean looking backscratcher that you have on that D4. Also. please correct me if I am wrong but that seat back cushion doesn't look factory standard from where I'm sitting. LOL.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Team,
Daryl's ripper would be a Standen unit--fitted several of those to D4, and larger machines back in the day.
I think they had them up to around D7 size. On occasions Mr Standen himself would come down from possibly Sydney if I recall correctly and measure things up for a new model ripper they had not built as yet.
I seem to recall a few going onto 922's as well I believe.
Just Googled this--hope it comes out OK.

Hi, edb.
Thanks for the memories. I ran a couple of dozers way back when that had various Standen attachments on them, mostly rippers and blades.

If'n mine memory serves me 'kee-wrecked-ly', Standen Engineering was located at Branxton on the New England Highway, not far West of Maitland and Rutherford.

Standen's made some VERY good equipment in their day, including their rippers.

But one of the most OUTSTANDING rippers I ever used was a cable controlled unit made by BHB and mounted onna 'stick-shift' Cat D6C. That jigger would just plain 'suck' itself into pretty much everything except solid rock - - - - - with ZERO down pressure 'coz of the cable control. Hard baked clay was NO problem to it. That was one MAGIC ripper.

That was the same BHB that made several different types and models of cranes.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Nick and All,
I hope I am not hijacking the thread, yes Ed that ripper is made by Standen, and Deas it is a temp of an old couch, as I have just finished cutting out the boards for the new seats.

Yes the ripper works well when I tried it out too.
