Good day.. recently renewed member with a question pertaining to 1952 (I think) D7 3T #20616. I’ve had a number of years, put gobs of hours on. Recently noticed over full crankcase oil and discovered fuel leaking into. I’ve researched many archived posts about this being the 8B 4967 seals on the injection pump. My books as well as previous posts are very helpful but still needing some exactness to a couple issues. Pics show I’m about ready to pull the housing but.. notice close up of yoke joining governor control rod to slide bar. I have the nut removed and there’s maybe 1/8” clearance til it hits back wall underneath filter tower. Bolt head hits and isn’t close at all to disconnecting. Also I’m not positive the whereabouts of the 2 o rings. I know proximities only far left and right of pump housing. Any input from experiencing this job is greatly appreciated.. thanks.

The 8B4967 seals go on both ends of the fuel injection pump fuel gallery. Be sure to check gallery and clean out any crud.
Take the large cover off the side of the governor and disconnect the rack linkage there (pin and cotter key).

Thank you Old Magnet..The large cover you’re referencing.. is it just to the right of the smaller cover I have removed? Also plz ..I read about the cam seal, 1H 5959 on a thread. Is this close to here? I have a parts book for this model# but doesn’t show it. I will clean any crud I can get to, the oil filters base area had some muck also .. again thx

Yes on the cover location.
The 4B4865=1H5959 seal is in a holder at the pump to governor interface flange. Not usually troublesome but not a bad idea to replace while in there.

The pics shown are manuals that match my 3T D7 #20616. Exploded parts show 2 seals 8B4967 but only one on far left of housing not the other seal beside filter tower. I’m going to be taking the housing off soon per OM’s instruction to replace the 2 above and possibly the 1H5959 cam. There is fuel getting into the oil crankcase. Thanks FD for input.

Hi Team,
the "O" Ring P/Nos are shown on the parts pages above over at the left side external end plug held in by a single bolt keeper.

The scan below is from a smaller machine but shows how you will likely find the "O" Ring seal that is squashed and deformed to a conical shape in service and how it is mounted on a Ferrule ---the new "O" Ring seal is like a standard round section "O" Ring that is the correct new shape despite what comes out of your unit.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

A later edition of the 3T2000 to 3T28058 Parts Book Form # UE032624 (1978) shows the filter tower side o-ring in phantom view.

Thanks much EDB for the example pic. I’ve read much about the o rings new shape after many years decades even of use.  Thanks also OM .. I’d like to get a updated version. I cannot even see the 4B 4865-1H5959 you referenced. I think my pic from another manual may be it though..correct? It’s not a parts book so I’m not sure.

Further researching reveals my parts manual does show the 4B 4865 after all. The accessory drive shaft seal pic is it as I suspected. I’m thinking about calling Cat to see if they have any of associated gaskets around this fuel filter tower area. Would anyone know possibly if these gaskets are available? Thank you.
