Hi;
I have a 1954 D318 8T S/N c12801and I'm looking to put an oil pressure gauge at or close to the starting station on the pinion side of the engine. If I can I would like to go directly into the head or block with no tubing. I know the bottom port is the drain plug for the cooling system, I'm planing to put a temp gauge there as well.
QUESTION:
is this an oil pressure port in the head or is it a blocked off access port from the milling process?
Thanks
Fat Dan

Hi FD,
hex plug on side of the cylinder block is to drain the engine block of coolant which should be shown in the Grey OM Instruction book in the cooling system draining section.
Screwed plug in cylinder head I do not recall seeing before but stand to be corrected--Cat sometimes used taper plugs to seal porous castings.
If it were an oil drilling there would likely be another to align with the front rocker box oil feed thru the block/head to feed the overhead valve rocker gear in each of the separate valve cases/boxes. I do not see 2 plugs as parts of the cylinder head assemblies in the parts book.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
