Wow! thanks for all the great comments. I do have a good filter on the main tank of #2 and it appears clean. I think I'll transfer everything to tanks near the Caterpillars and use it up eventually, taking the recommended precautions.

late to the party but jumping on the bandwagon, yes treat it and make sure no water, burn it up!
-not sure how long diesel can age, but i had some that had been laying around maybe ten years, same thing, no problems..

Sorry Fat Dan but I can't see anything in those pages referring to old fuel. Only the main point to keep it clean. The sludge can grow just as easily in fresh diesel as it can in old diesel. Also that book was written when the fuel filters were like rolls of string. Not sure if they would be more or less effective than the replacement filters.

Just a guess but I think the old fuel of 30 years ago will out last the modern stuff they sell today. I got D6 that had been parked in 1985, because of government farm land retirement program. Did fire breaks one day a year until steering clutch rusted. Then sat 10 to 20 years. Other than the tank was only 3/4 full and top rusted like no other I have seen. The fuel gave engine full power.
