Caterpillar - possibly RD4

I'm cleaning up inherited farm and trying to figure out what to do with old caterpillar tractor - Grandfather has the Tractor on the farm since at least the 1960s but it     hasn't been used in the last 20 years.  The information passed down the generations was "problems with keeping the tracks on and severely worn out".

Tractor Number is 5T3069W.  Found some information that said possibly a 1936-1939 RD4 model

Not sure if there is a desire but would love to find someone who restores these versus just sending to the scrap yard.

Any information would be helpful.

thanks,

Duane Sams

Looks like a fairly good tractor yet, list it for sale, too good to scrap.

That would be a 1945 D4 tractor, "W" means wide track gauge [60"]

Thanks for the information and the encouragement.

Tractor is located near Milton-Freewater, Oregon if anybody is interested in restoring the "1945 D4 Tractor".

thanks,

post a ad in the for sale section of the forum im sure you will get some interest. if you look on the side of the radiator there should be a pressed metal tag it will say what model it is if the tag isnt missing that is.

My first look at the photo made me think that it had a rear mounted hydraulic pump, but looking closer, it appears that there is an hydraulic pump in the place that a generator would normally bolt in. Live hydraulics are a good thing. That angle blade makes it a very nice tractor and I would think worth saving. Someone will have a use for it. Grant.
