I think your easiest route at this point Bruce is to measure the gap between the all of the buttons and the decompressor shaft, when it is in the not-decompressed position. Find the smallest of this set of measurements, subtract 0.125 from it, then order valve stem caps that add at least that height to the valve stem. You can get them ground down if you need a few thou. That's the simplest fix, and if it's an Eddie B approved solution, you know it will work : ). Better than removing the head, better than trying to knock the buttons out, and those caps probably only cost a few bucks each and are very easy to install
