The old pinion sleeve was completely destroyed the latches were in bottom bell housing, the button was missing and I know when I get it to function properly the lever rod will need to be readjusted. thank you for helping me John

New pinion gear makes a big difference. I put a new one on my 5U after battling the old one. All problems are solved now with the new one. The problem with mine was that the internal splines were worn, causing the gear to wobble on the splines as it rotated and thus dislodging the latches. The bolt holes were also flogged so they would never stay in.

Cheers,
Neil
