Valve guide part number question

I have recently come across some valve guides, part number 4F6949 A. My parts books say they will fit on the D315 and early model D318's. My D6 9U is in the 27### range. Will they work on that engine? Thank you,

Valve guides (bushings) part number changes to a 4H0621 at s/n 9U17,207 up.

I see several heads that can use either the 4F6949 or 4H0621, used on 9U1- 29764 and 7U1-44307 and others.

They are different, maybe not by a lot...
4F6949 length = 4.188" vs 4.250" for the 4H0621
4F6949 OD = 1.062" vs 1.562" for the 4H0621
4F6949 ID = 0.4375" vs 0.4400 for the 4H0621
Other shape dimensions are also different.
All my literature shows distinct different valve guides across the s/n's.

The 4F6949 and 4H0621 guides are quite a bit different, but they are both used in the same head assemblies, and with the same valves and springs in both. Looks like the 4H0621 is a one piece guide, but the 4F6949 also requires an additional part, spacer 5F3110 if you were going to replace the 4H0621 with 4f6949.

The heads on a 318 are as tuff as any you will find, but it still may have been changed in 60 years. So the head may be the earlier type, so check before looking for other guides.

What do you mean by the earlier type? My parts book is from 9U13263 up, all of the heads are the same number in there. Was there a different style before those serial numbers?

The OD makes quite a difference in the press fit.
The ID is significant when selecting the valve seat grinding pilot.
Early heads, part number 5F1305, casting #3F9903 were used to s/n 9U11704
Late heads, part number 1H7659, casting #7F7878 were used 9U11705 up and have the larger diameter pre-com chambers to accept glow plugs.
