Does anyone know a generic oil seal number for the crankshaft seal on the pony motor. I want to have one on hand before I tear it down.

When I did my pony motor this spring, I got everything I needed from my local CAT dealer Carter Machinery. While I wouldn't call it cheap, it is OEM stuff and was good quality at a reasonable price. Some original CAT stuff is priced to drive you to the aftermarket, other stuff is pretty reasonable. The pony parts are pretty much only from CAT.

oil seals and bearings are the pretty much the only parts that are readily available aftermarket as they were and still are supplied aftermarket to cat. if you can read the bearing or seal numbers its no problem to source most bearing shops can also simply measure the old part and match it. if you can find your self a bearing bible you become a man that's good to know. sadly they are not published in hard copy any more.

the one part that is always cheaper from cat is the button head grease fittings since its still used on later equipment and cat buys them in bulk you get the benefit. the basic rule is common stuff is reasonably cheap especially if used on more modern gear. a parts book is a big help. i have been able to find parts via googling the cat numbers and getting the national stock number anything that was supplied to the U.S government has a national stock number you can use that to get generic part no's or find the current cat pn. it also has size specs aswell i had to make a gear to adapt something via the nsn database i was able to find out the pitch and type of gear i was mating with.

My book shows: 1B2245 which goes on the pulley end. There is another one on the opposite end that has part number 2B6005.

Timing gear side seal: 2B6005 -> 5K2595
Pulley side seal: 1B2245 -> 5H9753 (not 5H7953)
