98J 1134-1458 got the 3N1-22865 engine 3306
98J1459-up got the 3N22866-24132 engine 3306.

D6B (37A & 44A series) uses the D333A 4-1/2" bore engine

so the early D5 SA also had the D333A and the later D5 SA had a D333 B or C? up until serial number 98J 1134? were the later D333 engines more or less prone to reliability problems? what were the issues associated with the D333 engine range? Thanks for your help

Not quite, the 98J came in in 1968 with the D333C (4-3/4 bore). They did not have the D333A
Almost the same as the 3306 and just as reliable.
The D333C and early 3306 engines are scroll type injection pumps
The later 3306 engines are sleeve metering pumps.

Thanks again Old Magnet. do you know at what serial number range the D333C was put into the D5 SA? was it a turbocharged engine? what was the horsepower? thanks i have been looking all over for info but am coming up dry.

The 98J started out with the D333C at 93 hp ( I believe that was normally aspirated)
The 3306 is turbo charged at 105 hp.
