I'm in a position to acquire a direct drive, cable blade D7 47A, serial number 4262.  This will be my newest crawler of 16 if I buy it.  Here are the details about the machine.
1)  The UC is better than 95%. 
2)  The machine was converted to electric start by the current owner.  The engine cranked right up with a little sniff of starting fluid. The guy selling it said the pony was too much trouble but he still has it.  I personally prefer a pony engine myself.  The main engine didn't blow any smoke that indicated it needed any TLC.  
3)  The main clutch felt like it needed a little adjustment.  I wasn't concerned about this.  The oil clutch is nearly indestructible.    
4)  I had to push the steering clutch levers back into place.  
5)  The gear oil in the transmission looked clean after it ran a while with the clutch engaged.  

I'm more concerned about the condition of the steering clutches.  I've replaced steering clutches before so I know what's involved.  I want to buy it to work it as a side job machine and would like to get at least 500 hours out of the machine without any major repairs.  I know the guy that has it.  He buys a different machine (bigger or newer) every five years or so to use on his property.  He is selling this D7 because he bought a D6D.  He had a nice 2UD8 when he bought this D7 about five years ago.  When I learned he bought this 47A, I told him he'd never use that 2U again even though they are both direct drive machines (I was right).  I told him to let me know when he was ready to sell the 47A, and here we are.  

I can't find any complete D7E 47A model dozers for sale, for price comparison.  He says he'll run it through an auction and probably get $12,000+ for it, but I think he'd have to find someone wanting to put that kind of money into a direct drive machine that didn't want a hydrostatic drive machine.  What do y'all think? 
 

Location probably has a lot to do with what one is worth along with condition. Just for an arms length comparison, my neighbor bought a D7-3T with a nice dozer blade and what I would consider good usable condition with undercarriage 50% and he paid just under $4000 from east central Nebraska two years ago. It is 1954 pony start. He has been using it to push cedar trees out of a pasture.

I sold a 47A last year equipped only with 2 valve rear hydraulics. Direct start, UC was every bit of 50% with tall grousers. 13,500.00 N. California. I only sold it because I had others similar to play with.

If the under carriage is good enough to run 500 hours you should go for it. I just replaced the clutch/transmission interlock linkage on my 47A with parts I got from Florin tractor (see view A-A in the attachment) and it made a world of difference.
