Zoom Room.....

Zoom Room..... was created by gauntjoh
I have been thinking about some of the things that we all miss about not being able to attend shows due to the dreaded Covid !
One thing that I miss and many of my friends do as well is being able to chat with friends ( "Craic" in local parlance) and like minded enthusiasts face to face.
I have been thinking that it ought to be possible to create a modern, "upto date" version of that old internet idea of a "chat room".
The idea would be that members (yes, we would restrict the use of the new facility to financial members) would be able to start or join a Zoom video conferencing meeting with other members probably initiated through the forum (at the bottom these is a list of who is using the forum at any point in time).
To be honest, I'm not 100% certain that this would be "doable"  or yet exactly how it might work, but before I expend a lot of effort in exploring options, I would like to gauge what demand there might be for such a facility.
I would appreciate your thoughts on if you are likely to use such a facility if it were available.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I think that would be a great idea. It would be nice to see the faces and hear the voices of many of the members. One of the drawbacks might be that helpful information that is captured in the written forums could be missed if discussed in the zoom, but most are already documented somewhere on the site in one post or the other. I think the idea is worth pursuing.

ZOOM ROOM

Access control should be relatively easy, access through the members area possibly, or alternatively the site would only recognize financial members if it was through the forum.

The BoD is trying to find ways to add value to memberships by restricting access to features like this.

yes, I thought about this too. like going to have a coffee shop but say every Tuesday you know there would be people on at a given time. just like-minded people. I have only been in a few zoom eating but it might be hard to keep everyone from talking over each other. but I would try it a few times for sure just to hear what been going on. with me I usually only post when I having a problem as I am a slow typer and speller. but do try to play with old iron on a weekly basis have a beer after and talk old iron and not have to worry about driving home afterward well that a win for sure. not sure if I would be much help but if there's something I could do I would be willing to help.
