How to replace "Drive Links" in Cat 30 Orchard

More

We are restoring a 1926 Cat 30 Orchard (Sn: S4376).  The original engine has soooo much rust inside, its pitted the cam shaft, crank etc.  We have a spare 30 and we're going to swap engines.  We pulled the engine on the Orchard without much problem.  The manual says you can bolt the engine back together, then replace the "Drive Links" but no other information.  Is there a trick to that? The stud from clutch faces forward and the flywheel stud face rearward and not sure how to slide the links on when they are so close and face in opposite directions.  Doesn't help working through a portal the size of a coffee can.
