Does anyone know anything about these elevating scrapers?  This one is for sale not to far from me and the price is right so seriously considering it to use with one of the farm tractors. Don't know anything about them and don't recall ever seeing one before.

They are very handy, I can say from experience. One thing to consider, ( I’m no xpurt) is it equipped with low pressure hydraulics or high pressure ?

In other words, will your modern tractor run it ?

Hi, D4Jim.
I don't know anything about that particular model but Caterpillar chose Johnson to make the elevators and scraper bowls for the Caterpillar J621 scrapers, the "J" being for Johnson. Those rigs were pretty reliable and effective.

TOGNOT has raised a pretty important question regarding the hydraulics. If they are low pressure hydraulics, it might work behind a D6 up to maybe an early D6C but you would need to have the power take-off available to drive the elevator. I have no idea what wheel tractors might handle it - don't hava whole lotta experience in that field..

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

My father had one that he pulled behind a JD 4020 in the 80's building farm dams. Can't vouch that it is the same model but looks identical. Was a bit young to remember much about it myself but he always preferred it to the open bowl pull scrapers. Always said that if he'd kept it longer he would have converted the elevator to hydraulic motor driven.

Thanks for the good suggestions and questions to ask. Plan to pull it with an older 4440 I have that is power shift and I think it is about 130hp. I don't think the elevator PTO part will take much power but I think hydro motor drive would be much simpler. My experience is the elevating scrapers are a lot easier to "load" than the bowl scrapers. The hydraulics are compatible with my 4440.

Well Jim, I hope you buy the Johnson scraper. I will call "dibs" on the Caterpillar #40 scraper should you decide to sell it. JM

I can tell you we had a Case dealer in Turlock ca. That sold them, and there were Landlevelers pulling them with. 500 and 900 Case standard wheel tractors. Which was BIG Power in the 50s and early 60s. Those old Case’s were hand OIL Clutch which Case come out with in1929 Damed hard to wear out!!! 17afarmer
