I did some discing today

I was able to enjoy a beautiful 75 degree day today on my D2 5U. I hooked up to a disc and cleared up some weeds in our field. The machine ran like a champ and it was good to get some "stick time' again. I do have a question for the experts. I was running in 4th gear at almost full throttle. The field was mostly flat and the soil was dry. What do you think my  fuel consuption was per hour? I am just curious. Thanks in advance.

AAAHHHHH the good life sitting under the umbrella and playing with the clutches and brakes.  Nice little rig!  Deas has been teasing us with big tractors like Big Bud and some steamers so probably less fuel than BB uses by quite an amount.   As a guess I would say maybe 1-1/3 GPH but that is subject to critique.

Hey Angelo, looking good! Here's a handy generic sheet on owner operating costs that gives an estimate of fuel consumption on the second page. Looks like maybe around a gallon an hour if it wasn't working too hard, maybe 1.5 if it was feeling the discs

Years back in the D2 days we could pull an 11 ft disc in third gear and in 4 hours we could add 5 gal of diesel and just fill the tank at noon. Farming under continuous load usually requires more fuel than on the charts as they probably allow for intermittent loads like dozing and scraping. Our green 250 hp tractor (Wheel) would use 12 gal per hour like clockwork under a pretty good load.

2 Bud Lights per hour for Crawler$$$...the slower he drives, the more consumption though...I don't know about how much fuel use per hour. I used to monitor use when I only used empty oil buckets to refuel with, back in the days of growing up dirt poor farming here. I want to say around a gallon an hour here on my D2 with most implements.
Nice IH Unibeam disk Angelo. I bet if you opened it up a hole or two, it would make your D2 beg for 3rd gear. Whatever became of the Killefer disc project?

Hi Juiceman, I can't seem to get Crawler$$ out to play lately. On Saturdays he usually counts his cash, loads the cash onto pallets and then goes to the bank to make a deposit. On my next trip up there, I think I will open the disc up a notch or two like you mentioned. The Killefer project came to a halt because we could not find the correct replacement parts and we could not remove the fried components. I might need to make a midnight run up to Yuba City to "borrow" one from you after the guard dogs go to sleep.
