Would anybody know of an aftermarket engine parts supplier? I have a 4U4176 with a severly weather seized engine. I am in north eastern Canada, and the parts at the Cat dealer are just too pricey. Pistons, liners, rings, and valves alone are almost $5000.00

machinery trader.com has a spot to check for parts as well. there you can find NOS stock at small dealerships and or aftermarket parts. I do believe PDI makes up engine kits for Caterpillar motor. I would say your best bet would be to buy a parts cat as I find shipping to or within Canada is very costly and take real patience. you could check with gemdozer on hear he's from the eats and always seemed to have good parts and prices. you're looking for D311 parts, right? I would say find a good motor/ engine shop lost of stuff could be refurbishing as to just buying new parts. I feel that piston get change more times than is really needed get with a serviceman reference for the d311 and check out the specks vs what your look like. maybe you can save your liners with a good honing and get an oversized set of rings made up. pictures will help to see what you're dealing with.

Thanks mog5858. yes, its a D311. The liners are severely pitted. and 2 piston skirts are beyond repair. used parts are hard to find in my part of the world. Back some years ago when the push was on to clean the environment and the scrap steel prices were high, a lot of good reusable parts and good running, but obsolete machines went to the crusher. I priced all items to do a full rebuild on the engine, Cat dealer quote came in at just under $9,000.00. Now I can understand why former owners of old equipment just lost interest and sold everything for scrap.

TDD2 that is the reason I let the 18,XXX D2 go to another collector. It everything was either frozen or worn out. Had I revived it, my best guess was in the range of 25,000.00 to make it alive again. I like tractors, but with several above average D2s here already, I had to make the painful decision to let someone else enjoy it.

Hello Juiceman. Yes, I agree, it can be pricey. I done the engine in my D6C, 3306 a hell of a lot cheaper than what the D311 could cost. Anyhow, the latest is that I received a lead on a scraped D311 out of a gen set that was ran out of oil. apparently the crank and block are ruined. I'm hoping the liners and pistons are reusable, and that there is good pieces in the cylinder head. I have not disassembled any other component of the D2 yet. It rolls free, the steering clutch and brakes respond, the main clutch has a good feel to it. The undercarriage is really good, the pads/grousers look to be new. I already have a rebuilt carb and mag for the pony.
