So, I seem to be going further down the rabbit hole as i get older! Nice-to me, little D2  The one with totally shot and frozen steering clutches and toatlly frozen main clutch, all courtesey of Mickey & Co. decorating and condo mananagers. Looking for a Rustoleum tan/brown ?? that is close to Cat inner compartment color. I understand that this for my personal enjoyment and actually does provide some rust prevenative purpose. Not going to paint match card level here.

Thanks!!  Herb

If you cant find the brown primer then use Cat yellow primer, don't want to use paint.

OK, Rome. Why not paint? Primer is porous. The real old Cats I restore, I use Gylptal red..

I've used the rustoleum primer on small block chevys, but any color primer will work. Its not there to seal the metal so much as it helps with oil return back to the bottom of the compartment. It also aids in preventing sludge build up as the sludge has a tendency to slide down instead of accumulate making it easier to drain it out the bottom during periodic maintenance.

Gary, that is the same purpose i use Gylptal electrical insulating coating. I want to coat steering clutch and main clutch compartments from further rust.
Thanks
