Caterpillar serial number tags

Hello I have recently viewed a 1951 Cat D6 sleeping in the bush in British Columbia. The engine serial number is quite plain and undamaged. However it has CHILI M. R. stamped on it instead of say Peoria. Was it made in Chili or what is the meaning of that?
Thank-you

That just means Caterpillar is copyrighted in those countries. It should have "Made in U.S." on the tag also, unless it is the patent tag your reading.

It's just the trade mark that is registered in Chile, nothing to do with manufacturing location.
