Dave, there's a small round cover on the left side (sitting in the seat) of the "bell housing" secured by two 1/4 bolts. Remove that (be careful not to lose the cover or the bolts (I turned one hole into a slot so that I could just loosen the cover and swing it out of the way. Shine your light in there - there are two latches on the pinion latch assembly. You want to squeeze together the ends of the latches that are closest to the operator's seat i.e. the rear. They're geared together so pressing on the end of one will release both of them. The front end of those latches have a step that latches on to a stop bolt. By squeezing the other end, you'll release the pinion from engagement. Use a screwdriver so you don't mung your fingers. I didn't know that Gary, thanks for that info. That would suck a little, but if Dave has a bendy arm : ), he can reach in through the main clutch cover, or bend up some kind of "poker" to get in there and poke the latches open
