Good morning! Can anyone tell me if the hyster winch from a D46U s/n 6U3391 will fit on a D47U s/n 36219? I'm thinking about a new purchase! Thanks, Elton

Hi, Elton.
I'm no 'ex-spurt' but I'd put money on that one, that it will slip right on. They are both exactly the same back end, except that the 7U has the sprockets set out a little wider to give it a wider track gauge.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Yes it should bolt up but I think the controls may be different. Are we talking a Hyster D4N? 6U3391 comes up as a 1949. Does it have a seat fuel tank or fender tank? The 7U is a late model unit, late 50s so it is likely a seat tank. The two different models have different controls so maybe check that. The winch itself is the same I believe and should bolt up just the same.

The 6U has the fender tank, and the 7U has the seat tank. I would hope to be able to adapt the linkage if all the housings and gears are compatable. Thank you for your help! Elton

Note the "tractor seat alterations for seat mounted tank, fender modifications. On a fender mounted tank there is a small box bolted on top of the winch for the shifting mechanism. That gets replaced with a flatter plate where the linkage goes in on a seat tank model. I'm not sure but maybe if you were crafty enough, you may be able to modify what you have to work but that isnt how Hyster did it.

Mangoman, Thanks for your references, I see what you mean about the controls. See the For Sale section D46U number 223445. The thing on top of the winch might indeed interfere with the seat/tank. I can see a control on the right side that doesn't seem to be in the way, but the thing on top could be an issue. If the winch will not work on my machine, I don't have much need for the tractor. Further comments, opinions, and facts are welcome! Elton

The top of the winch for the control can be swapped. Fender mounted tank will use one type, seat tank will use another but as long as you stay in the D4N series, they will interchange.

Hi, Elton.
OQHHHHHH, THAT was 'sneaky'. LOL. You didn't mention in your original post what fuel tanks either tractor had. possibly 'cos you didn't know that it might make any difference. Fender tanks were available for the 6U/7U tractors but were not as common as seat tanks, at least in my experience.

Deas, I didn't know that there was a difference but I guess I should have known. I'm not sure I should get the tractor/winch as it may be tough to find the parts to adapt it to my tractor. At this point I haven't finished up the tractor so finishing the tractor should be the priority. Elton
