What will be your process to determine the amount of shim required Martin? All I can think of is to put a known (and too large) thickness shim in there, torque the retainer down, then measure under the edge of the retainer in several places around the periphery, but I'm sure there's a smarter way?

Cheers,

well with some spring weather coming in I have not been spending much time in the shop hopefully she will move this week I stay home from work today as the roads are closed got some snow and ice over the past 2 days so that's why you're getting an update. yes, your right Neil that's a very good simple way to do it.  I used a death mic to get a starting point because I have one but is not needed.  I ran a file across to find any hi spots first. after fighting the motor mount bolts for way too long I broke 4 of them off as they were stuck by rust on the body. it took just over .250 to shim up the front of the motor to make the flywheel and the transmission face run true to each other I had it running 0 but after tightening it all down I end up with .003 (tim) over 10" so I am happy with that. drop or tried to drop the bell pans as they need a good cleaning I had to pry the back one down off the cat to say it was full might be an understatement. found a nice-sized wasp nest when I was under there too. glad to not be in a heated shop for once lol.  I made a new bushing to hold the one side to the shift yoke as the transmission case is a little worn or bell mouth.
