Does someone have a scan on the procedure to adjust 22 oil pressure? I know that the bottom cover have to be removed., what direction to turn knob. What is normal oil pressure? hot?

Turn in the knurled screw in, clock-wise to increase pressure. 25 psi when new and any pressure above 10 psi is fine "If there is no mechanical problems". That is my opinion only. CATERPILLAR replaced the psi gauge to a flow gauge, good flow is more important in these slow rpm engines. Be sure to have a "know" accurate gauge before adjusting. Also you should take a look at the main bearing for looseness. My original CAT 22 had 5 psi when I got it and it was in good working order, I dropped the pan and adjusted the main bearings. The gauge went to15 psi. This tractor has worked hard for 40 years at 15 psi hot and I have had different CAT gauges on it. Bill

This is a brand new engine, all new Babbitt crank and rods with .003 clearance. Gauges have been totally restored. Pegs oil pressure all the time. Probably take another gauge to test at the oil rail. OK I'll shoot for 25# hot.

Hi Team,
something to be aware of is that in a these older engines with shim adjusted bearings, a common error with home made shim packs is that they do not have the Babbitted facing on the shim pack so as the shim pack can sit closely to the crank journals and so retain the oil pressure as designed--the oil pressure leaks out between the face of the shim pack and the crank, the bearing Babbitt usually has a groove around the centre of the Babbitt which along with a bevel at the parting line of the Babbitt faces will also exacerbate the leakage--a lot of the old technology of Babbitted bearings has been lost or not understood and so not followed.
Just my 2 bob's worth of some things to check with your new bearings and shims.
