D6 9U gear ratios was created by mfowler
Just wondering if all 9Us came with the same gear ratios? Mine seems to be geared pretty high, 4th and 5th are not really usable, and I could use one gear lower from first. Thanks for any input.

There are at least two different gearing set ups, might be more I cannot remember what the parts book lists. I have one 9U like what you describe, usually only use first and second gear for farming. The others are much slower in the first 4 gears and I’m usually using third and forth. Tag on the rear next to the serial number tag will help you id what you have. If no one else chimes in with the known gear ratios I will try to find my book and look it up for you, Mike

Were D2's the same? On my 5U11169, 1st is faster than I would like, and I can't imagine anyone ever using even 3rd and 4th, much less 5th. I wish the entire gearset was geared about 30% lower so I really had a slow crawler speed in 1st. Just out of curiosity, to reduce all the ratios, would it be necessary to swap out the entire gearset on the transmission, or would it be only a few gears. How would one identify a lower range gearset?

Thank you Mschwartz and Old Magnet, that is exactly what I was wanting to know. I really should have known it already.

No, but at 5U16128 they offered a two speed reverse gear group, but the forward gears were the same as the standard transmission. They also had higher speed group for third and fourth gears.
