1936 RD6 steering clutch information (2h2220WSP)

Im working on repairing the right steering clutch on my RD-6 (2h2220) and supposedly you do this by removing the top deck, and the whole clutch pack can be removed. from what I can see through the various access covers, the throw out bearing is cooked. should be a standard bearing, yes?

If anyone could provide insight from experience, that would be great. I plan on servicing both sides if the process isn't too bad. Ive studied the books I can find, but I do not have a service manual.

TIA

Yes the tranny top comes off, then remove the cross shaft that carries both clutch packs.

The RD6 has extra adjustment available for the steering clutch throw out bearings too, do you have a Operators Manual, it will show the adjustment proceedure, there is a small slotted bracket down in the bottom of the tranny, you access the securing bolt from outside the tractor, it hides above the track frame brace.

Hi RR,
also be sure to back off the two cross shaft bearing cage adjustment rings to allow some tooth clearance between the bevel gear and pinion teeth. The teeth are very hard and can chip easily if they do not disengage correctly and easily as you lift out the cross shaft assembly.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
