Hi All,
I am chasing up the aftermarket part number for a bearing 5H0239 or 5H239 as Cat do not have them any more?
Mine has a few ruff spots in it.
Thanks
Daryl

Hi Team,
bevel pinion bearing assembly built to Cat requirements----which can mean things like special tighter9Non-standard) fit on pinion shaft--looser or tighter bearing clearance in the assembly and so on.
If an aftermarket or NOS unit is not available you will likely end up buying the cups and cones to suit as individual parts and adjust the spacer ring thickness to give a possible bearing clearance after assembly of 0.0018" to 0.0085" with a max of 0.012"--from memory the spacer ring should have the clearance that that bearing assembly had been set to at the factory etched into it as a guide--I got these specs from a Serv. Manual insert type Spec. Sheet for a 78A D4D.
Be aware that the cones may not fit as tight as Cat ones on the pinion shaft--for a seldom used and not production output machine you may likely not have issues.
The double Timken tapers are an upgrade of a ball bearing originally used at the bevel pinion head end of the pinion shaft.
There are traps with buying bearings outside of the Cat parts system that can have the same manufacturers numbers on them as a Cat one but the Cat one has had some dimensions changed to suit Cats application and so they ended up not being cheaper bearings after a failure occurred because of using non Cat specified dimension parts--seen it happen on heavily laden production machines.
I stand to be corrected.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi edb,
Thanks for the info, yes I know there can be a difference, between Cat and aftermarket bearings.
I went back out to the shed again after lunch and had a look at it again and washed it out again and managed to get some more rubbish out of it, now it rolls much better and I am happy with, as you said they don't many hours in a year now so it should last another 60+ years.
Regards
Daryl
