Tried a new John Deere 6 bottom, (new to me), whith my turboed D6 9U, pull in 3rd 10 or so inches, in 2nd at 14 inches deep, does a real good job of burying the trash, turns up some huge adobe clods, hard to get it to work back down for the seed bed, LOL. Need to repair the 6 bottom disc plow, it pulls much easire at the same depths. Tom.

Interesting comment about a disc plow pulling easier. Not ever pulling a plow I had never given it any thought. I have spent a few odd hours with a Oliver 8 disc , disc plow with a AC HD 5. Was a good load but not overloaded.

I am pleased with the CASE 600 disc plow that I bid on awhile back. 5 bottoms @ not quite the original 30" it came with. I had only used it behind my Allis Chalmers HD6E, not to be color coordinated, but that was the closest crawler available with a 2 valve Be-Ge. It pulled it pretty deep at Mom's place, even though in second gear.
In the springtime, when there should be a couple feet of mustard and Johnson grass, I will use it with a CAT as to go deeper and faster! OR, I might pull out the roll over JD that is considered another "odd duck" of a plow.
My reading tells me that several plows built by various manufacturers were specifically made for the West Coast market...
TomTrack44, can you share your video here or the link? I did so on FB and some think your hotrod 9U was going faster than 2nd gear?
Thanks! JM

Gee. I I could figure out how to load the video I could. Have not tried it. As for the speed, in the video it was in 3rd, some soft soil in that one area, the rest of the field is much harder adobe. I thought it looked fast for 3rd when I looked at it. I know it is not 4th, wont pull that plow in 4th, will not even pull the disc plow in 4th at that depth.

Ah hah! Paso Bob and Chumbly saw it and said it looked much faster than 2nd overdrive; I wasn't going to argue with them, as you said second? I used to own a Hot Rod 9U, but good old Bruce P. talked me out of it. Quite funny, since he was the one that reached out to me originally and said that I should BUY IT!!! I guess I will never know what it is like to own a jacked up 9U..........no emojis for tears or boo hoo available.......................JM

Now that the crops are all planted, going to finally get the blade put on and level out some dirt we had hauled in to one of the low spots! Gotta keep the cat fever going, keeps the dreded covid at bay!

I say dirt, dust and diesel fumes are the best way to toughen up your immune system. Not to mention therapy as well. Rub it in Tom, rub it in. Too muddy here to do anything outside. Nor worries, I am sure to find some mischief to get into. JM

A D6 9U is good match with a 4 bottom disc plow. Pulled such plows in the Delta with 9u's for many years.
A D6C can handle a 5 bottom disc plow nicely but will struggle with a larger plow in heavier ground.
