Hello, I joined the club because I can't find any info on these old machines beyond build dates and general specs. Any help is appreciated. I kind of inherited a D47U serial# 7U41004. From what I have read it has a D315 engine. It has a 12 volt reverse polarity starter. Glad it has no pony motor from all the posts I have read.
My problem is parts. My only big issue is the primary fuel or lift pump leaks (seeps) continuously. The Cat website Will not recognize my serial#, even when I add the 0. I thought I found this co. called AGKITS that might have it but they can only cross reference OEM part#s. All I'm looking for is a gasket kit and a source for more gaskets and seals in the future. Lately the bolt that holds the oil filter canister is leaking out the top. Looks like a big copper brake washer or similar will fix it. Also, the manual did not provide any lubrication info that I seen. Thanks for reading...

Here’s a link to a pdf version of the parts catalog for your machine;

www.tractorparts.com/PDFs/D47U27570-44307PARTS.pdf

Thing to remember/realise is that the parts site at CAT only recognises 5 digit part nos. For example the stud V-155 would now be 0V-0155.. Some have been changed but not many, if they have some guys on this site have access to a CAT Numerical Parts Record where part number changes are recorded. Worth asking on a separate thread for aid in chasing obscure part nos. Hope this helps.

Tony

Thanks, Tony. That PDF file was a good start. I have read that a good parts guy at Cat can find these old parts or at least the OEM #s. I called the closest dealer to me (about 50 miles) and the guy I talked to had no "old machine knowledge". He said they were basically a semi truck Cat dealer. I will try the next closest and hope they are a heavy machine dealer. Thanks again, Mike

Contact Florin Tractor Parts down in Sacramento, they specialize in these older Cats, and if they don't have the part on the shelf, they bring it in, they are great to deal with, sell both genuine and aftermarket parts.

Tried their web sight yesterday. It just took me around in circles. I will call on Monday. It's interesting that the first 2 people to answer my post are from 2 different continents other than mine. Thanks for the help. Mike

Just a bit of info for you. The fuel filters are available from Napa Auto, #3825. You need 4 each at $25 from Napa. I have not checked with Cat on their price. The gaskets are available from Napa and are # FIL 5635 and cost less than $3 each. If you give them that number, they will say it is a fuel filter, but it is the correct gasket. It took me a couple of weeks to get the gaskets, so when they arrived, I ordered 4 more so I would not have to wait in the future. One guy in my local Napa is good at finding the old stuff. Most younger ones dont do so well. I hope it helps. Grant.

DEEBO, what part of Scotland? I spent 3 weeks in Scotland last year and didnt see a single old Cat. I only saw a few modern wheel loaders. Grant.

Just south of Glasgow, there were quite a few in this area, but nowhere near as common as the US. Local firm had two D8s that worked hard until they were left and just rotted in a field until scrapped. There’s a D2 near me along with my D4 2T. A few old farmers were fans. I think because most pickup trucks over here are only allowed to pull 7000lbs CATs are not as popular with the vintage tractor crowd being so heavy..

I have never used their website, I just email them direct, they are a small company, only 4 people, but have a huge storage facility full of Cat parts, Dana is the owner, I deal with Dennis who is his good buddy, Dennis is brilliant, happy to consolidate orders from other suppliers for cheaper shipping, and their prices are generally better than anyone else.

Don't be scared to get common items like those fuel filters and gaskets from your local Cat Dealer, common items like them are often very reasonably priced, they used to be cheap not long ago, but Cat have jacked up prices a lot in the past 5 years for some reason, still, it doesn't hurt to ask, particularly if they are close.

They made a lot of D4 tractors over the years, so parts are generally not hard to find.
