I am purchasing a34_15 electric set with 655 hours on it, that has always been stored undercover but hasn't run for many years,I am wondering if I should take off the main bear and rod bearings and inspect, also could these engine liners suffer calvation where they have not been used.I assume the injection system will be ok if I clean out the old fuel ,put new fuel and filters in,also regarding the generator what should we be looking for in problems here.Thank You

Is it locked up? Go easy and try to get it to bar over. (make a hand crank)(no compression) If it does move, remove injectors and fill cylinders with light oil. Bar and fill a few revolutions then go to getting other things in order to roll it (no-compression) using pony engine. LOOKING FOR ENGINE OIL PRESSURE IS YOUR GOAL HERE. A lot of steps involved bringing a "long time sitter" back. Good luck with ur project.

On the generator itself, no mouse nests and chewed wires, remove all mud dauber nests etc so airflow isn’t blocked. Make sure all output wires are insulated or otherwise prevented from shorting. Exciter breaker off if it has one. Probably could take belt off if it doesn’t have an exciter breaker. Get engine running at correct rpm and then get it making electricity by cleaning commutator and slip rings, checking brushes are free in guides, have good spring tension etc. If it won’t gen at that point probably need to flash it.

I would check the engine oil for water accumulated in bottom of oil pan before I ever turned it over. Drain water and sediment out of fuel tank and clean fuel filter tower, flushing it out with clean fuel etc, then replace filters before priming it up with good fuel.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
