D4 nose down was created by hotrodwelder1
Ok i have a D4 5T and since the day i brought her home she is nose down... The nose is a good 3-4" lower than level. I have checked the main spring to see if i have a broken leaf or such, no major problems there other than a little wear. The helper spring under the main spring is worn on the bushings pretty well..sloppy is a good term..

Any reason it would be listing nose down other than what i have found? I think they look better sitting level  call me crazy..

I'd like to remedy the problem.

Hi Hotrowelder,
What you will find is after all these years, is the main spring has gotten weak and can no longer hold the engine nose up.

To fix the problem you will have to take the spring out (not a big job) and either have it reset or have a new one made.

I had the same problem with my RD4 when i rebuild her the front was at least 4 to 5 inches down, so i took it into the local spring shop, and he told me that it could be reset but would not last as long and a new one made was not a huge differance, now she sits levelif not just a tad proud.

I also had the little spring tidyed up too new bushes and straightened.

Regards

Daryl

The other thing it could be is worn wear pads under each end of the spring

you mention you can't see a broken leaf...maybe they are just fatigued...

- maybe they can add an additional leaf...it's common with automotive vehicles...just a thought..

The spring on my d2 is in pretty rough shape so I che ked on having it rebuilt. As mentioned the price difference between ew and rebuilt was about $150. All the spring shop needed was the actual height that the spring ends were in comparison to a reference point. I got measurements from a couple of machines and from a couple of members. I have a level sitting 5t for reference if you need. All the measurements I got were from the bottom of the spring pack so the shop has a reference point while doing the work.

Gents,
I did check the wear pads on the ends of the main leaf, they are worn but not gone. Probably a 1/4" thick. The main spring seems to be level from side to side, not sagged in the middle. I think i'll tear it apart and rebuild the bushings and the shackles and freshen it up..

Thanks for the input from the replies. Come on over and get your hands dirty and you can help me fix it.. Hahaha
